The unusual history of the "ARCTIC" project
|

In 2018 the Natural Environment Research Council (N.E.R.C.) invited Mimika to devise, develop and deliver a theatrical production in our touring theatre tent that was to be inspired by the massive "Changing Arctic Ocean" (C.A.O.) research project.
In 2019 the Arts Council of England agreed to support the work and fund preview performances in Primary Schools in West Yorkshire. In March 2020, just 2 weeks before the performances were due to be presented, Covid 19 arrived and outside groups were banned from visiting schools. We did not know it at the time but the tent based "ARCTIC" was over. |
Mimika's Lockdown
During the first year of Lockdown we engaged in a variety of internal housekeeping events.
Later, following discussions with funders, schools and our board of trustees, in August 2021 we undertook the task of reimagining the "ARCTIC" as an online experience for Primary Schools.
Since then we have been writing, building and testing this online version.

How does it work?We are beginning the roll out of the work for the public.
First - it is free. Second - Originally intended to be viewed and used by Primary Schools in England it is in fact available to anyone with internet access - wherever you are. Most of the work is presented in the form of downloadable videos but there are also accompanying backup materials as downloadable PDFs and other files. |
